If you have a tax disc reminder (V11 form), visit your nearest branch when it’s time to renew your car tax disc and bring your DVLA tax disc reminder (V11 form), which should have been sent to you by the DVLA.
You'll also need to take along:
a valid insurance certificate or cover note - not a renewal invitation or a photocopy, facsimile, policy receipt or schedule
a valid Vehicle Test Certificate. if required. Your tax disc reminder should tell you if this is needed.
for disabled tax class only, a valid Exemption Certificate
If you have a tax disc reminder (V85/1 form), you must apply for renewal at a DVLA local office.
If you can't use a tax disc reminder, for whatever reason (eg the form may not have been received or you may have lost it, or if there has been a break in the licensing, or the vehicle has a new keeper, then you can't use the reminder form), you'll need to take the following documents to a Motor Vehicle Licence issuing Post Office® branch:
the registration document (V5C) or the tear off portion (V5C/2) if you have recently purchased the vehicle (the V5C/2 can only be used within 8 weeks of date of sale).
a valid insurance certificate or cover note - not a renewal invitation or a photocopy, facsimile, policy receipt or schedule
a valid Vehicle Test Certificate if required
for disabled tax class only, a valid Exemption Certificate
