Morning surgeries daily 11am – 1pm
Whether your question is artistic, legal, technical, editorial, financial or a combination of all five, book yourself in for an up-close and personal half-hour mentoring session with one of our Industry experts.

Confirmed specialists include: Jon Croker (Script Development), Story Editor & Talent Tracker, UK Film Council, Charlie Philips (Documentary), Market place producer, Sheffield DocFest, David Wilkinson (Sales & Distribution), MD Guerilla Films, David Castro (Production), Independent Producer & Head of Production, Screen South, and a representtive from Olswang (legal) with dates and further names to be confirmed.

Anybody with a filmmakers pass can sign up for a one-to-one surgery at the filmmakers centre reception desk, open from 12 noon on Friday 23 April, and daily 10:30-18:00 between 26-30 April.

Afternoon workshops & panel discussions 2pm – 5pm
Throughout the afternoons, the Filmmakers Centre will be hosting a series of Industry talks, workshops and panel discussions aimed at exploring all the latest developments in the film world.

Anybody with a filmmakers pass can sign up for a workshop at the filmmakers centre reception desk, open from 12 noon on Friday 23 April, and daily 10:30-18:00 between 26-30 April.

Networking Drinks 5pm – 6pm, dates tbc
Join fellow filmmakers, colleagues, festival guests and partners for informal networking, a quick glass of wine and talk before heading on to the evening’s entertainment. We’ll be hosting at least three of these short networking sessions during the festival; dates to be announced shortly.

Access to all daytime events & early evening networking is available by buying either a day or week’s pass for the daytime programme (£5/£10). Where open events are oversubscribed, access will be on a first come, first served basis.


EVENING EVENTS & MASTERCLASSES

In the evening, the Filmmakers centre plays host to some of the best creative talent in the UK. Full listings can be found on the In-person Masterclasses and Filmmakers in Conversation events page.

Tickets for evening events cost £6.50 and are available via wegottickets.com/eeff or on the door (subject to availability).

Filmmakers Centre Pass holders also gain free access to ‘rush tickets’ for public evening events and masterclasses taking place in the space in the evening(subject to availability).

How to Make a Little go a Long Way (AKA How I Stopped Worrying and Start Loving Having Nothing)
With Mia Bays, supported by Film London.

Join producer, consultant, and executive for the Microwave production scheme, Mia Bays, for a lively presentation focusing on small budget moviemaking.
along with top tips on how to think about the audience, how to think about the marketplace, and how to achieve success with limited means.
Using SHIFTY as a case study, Mia will show first-hand tips and tricks to make your low-budget ambitions a reality.

Successful Production Management
Presented by London Film Academy

A practical session delivered by producer Rachel Robey covering production management from the producers’ perspective - with basic production management principals which can be applied both to short films and feature length productions. Topics will include: managing your budget/money, financial management of documents; pitfalls to look out for; do you need a production accountant? do you need a production manager?; the taxing issue of tax and VAT.

Rachel is a producer and co-director at Wellington Films Ltd. Her BAFTA nominated debut feature, LONDON TO BRIGHTON (Paul Andrew Williams) earned the Best Achievement in Production Award at the 2006 British Independent Film Awards and a nomination at the London Critics Circle Film Awards for British Film Producer of the Year. She is currently in production on her fifth feature film, a feature length documentary about the fashion designer Ozwald Boateng. Rachel has also produced over thirty short films, and has physical production credits including Shane Meadow’s ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ and Anton Corbijn’s ‘Control’.

BAFTA bring together some top creative talents and Heads of Department for a humorous retelling of their production horror stories and what they learned from them. Join us for some tales of woe from the film front lines followed by a networking drink...our speakers will need one.

Script Development Surgery (one-to-ones)
With Jon Croker, supported by UK Film Council.

Book yourself in for a private surgery with one of our experts! Jon Croker is a Story Editor & Talent Tracker in the Development Fund at the UK Film Council, where has worked on films such as “In The Loop”, “Bright Star” and “West is West”, the upcoming sequel to “East is East”. Prior to this he worked as Mike Newell’s assistant on “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and as a researcher to Pawel Pawlikowski. He wrote and directed a feature film for £650, “The Best Man” which was shown at various international festivals, and wrote “Ealing Comedy”, which was released in cinemas in 2008.

High resolutions, combined with accessible technologies, are bringing a huge and sometimes bewildering choice of acquisition medium to indy filmmakers. But why choose one codec, camera or workflow over another?

As the traditional windows of distribution are collapsing the panel will discuss the new opportunities for independent producers to reach wider audiences, contribute to the distribution process and if producers are more likely to see more revenues. Documentary Surgery (one-to-ones)
With Charlie Phillips, supported by Doc/Fest.

Book yourself in for a private surgery with one of our experts! Charlie Phillips is marketplace producer for the Sheffield Doc/Fest MeetMarket, the pitching initiative designed to match documentary makers’ most innovative project ideas with UK and international buyers. Projects can be at any stage of development and cross-platform projects are also very welcome. Projects must have international appeal and take an innovative/fresh approach to either the content, the execution of the idea or both. Doc/Fest runs year-round training workshops in pitching ideas and accessing funds inside and outside of traditional funding streams, including broadcasting, cross-media releases, DIY distribution and marketing. Charlie will be holding one-on-one mentoring sessions on these areas in the EEFF filmmakers centre - a must if you’re serious about getting that passion project doc off the ground.

Tigerlily Films: 10 Years On

Join Nikki Parrot and Natasha Dack the producers behind ONLY WHEN I DANCE; SHE A CHINESE, WHAM BAM ISLAM and BRAVO (to name but a few) in conversation with Charlie Phillips (Doc/Fest). They’ve had a prolific career over the past ten years so come along and quiz them direct about what it takes to sustain a decade in documentaries, spanning film, TV and shorts.

Shorts to Features
Presented by Lifesize Pictures

Should filmmakers shoot their first feature on their own money? Should a director stick to the same style and genre in their short and their first feature? These questions are some of the reoccurring themes that will be
examined by Rebecca Mark Lawson (MD, Lifesize Pictures), Zorana Piggott (producer, 011 productions) and Maggie Ellis (Head of Production, Film London)the panel at at the East End Film Festival 2010. This industry led session will quiz the creative leap from short films to feature length films and what this demands of filmmakers. With practical advice from Zorana, a producer whose work with shorts directors Eicke Bettinger and Tom Geens has actively lifted feature projects off the ground, and Maggie, whose work spans both the Pulse shorts and Microwave features production funds at Film London.

Join producer Grant Keir (Faction North), Virginia Heath (MD, Casting Scene, online casting resource) and Anna Kennedy (Casting Director whose credits include MUM AND DAD, PIMP, WHEN BORIS MET DAVE) for practical advice about core casting skills for directors and producers, plus debate between the innovators (online) and traditional methods.
