Proof of sickness required by your employer
Your employer may set out how you should tell them that you are sick (eg ring in before a certain time of the day). Usually you'll be able to self-certify for a week of illness; beyond that a doctor's note is usually required.
Who is eligible?
If you're working for an employer under a contract of service (even if you've only just started), you're entitled to Statutory Sick Pay if the following apply:

The standard rate for Statutory Sick Pay is £75.40 a week.
